Make play possible

Volunteer with us

Volunteering with Derbyshire Toy Libraries is more than just helping out — it's about being part of something joyful, hands-on and genuinely meaningful.

Whether you're a student gaining experience, a parent looking to give back, or someone who simply loves seeing children play and learn, you'll find a warm welcome here.

From setting up Stay and Play sessions to chatting with families, cleaning toys, or helping at events, every volunteer makes a real difference. You'll be supported every step of the way with full training and a friendly team to guide you — and yes, we cover the cost of any required DBS checks.

Whatever your background, if you have a smile to share and a bit of time to give, there's a place for you at Derbyshire Toy Libraries.

A community hall set up for a Stay & Play session, with ride-ons, play mats and toys laid out ready to welcome families

At a session

Welcome families, set up and pack away toys, make teas and coffees, join in craft activities — every Stay & Play runs on volunteers.

At an event

Help at toy auctions, community events and pop-ups — from Kilburn Day to Pride in Belper and the Belper lights switch-on.

Behind the scenes

Admin, toy checking and cleaning, social media, or consider becoming one of our trustees — limited availability is absolutely fine.

I think DTL Stay & Play is a friendly, fun and safe environment for both adults and their children to meet, socialise and learn together. I like being a part of that because having somewhere similar to go to when my children were young was very important and valuable to me.
